Rochester, N.Y. – Roberts Wesleyan College Director of Athletics,
Bob Segave has announced the hiring of
Sara Smith as the inaugural head coach of the new men's and women's swim programs.
"I am beyond excited to join the Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawk family as the athletic program expands its tradition of excellence with the addition of a competitive swim program," Smith said. "I believe that the addition of the swim program will continue to enhance the overall experience for Roberts Wesleyan College student-athletes as they continue to follow a path of excellence in academics and athletics. I look forward to the challenge of building this new program and I believe that we will see great success for the Redhawk swim team."
Smith comes to Roberts after serving as the Head Coach and Program Director for Marlins Swimming, Inc. since 2012. Marlins Swimming is a nonprofit youth organization that develops over 120 swimmers at five different skill levels. During her time with the program, Smith has seen her athletes break over 50 records while also coaching her athletes to Niagara Local Swim Committee championships.
Since 2015, Smith was also the JV and Varsity coach of the Spencerport swim program overseeing and implementing the training plans while also monitoring the student-athletes eligibility. During this time Smith has coached and seen five state qualifiers, five program records broken and multiple Academic All-Americans.
Smith was a competitive swimmer while at Nazareth College where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. She then went on to receive a Master of Business Administration Degree from St. John Fisher College in 2013.
Since the age of eight, Smith has been involved with the Niagara Local Swim Committee from competing to serving on the board.
As the first ever swim coach at Roberts Wesleyan College, Smith will be in charge of developing the men's and women's program from the ground up. She will begin her duties on March 13.
