ERIE, Pa.- Freshmen
Paul Langbroek and
Dennis Barlotta competed well for the Roberts Wesleyan men's tennis team in a loss to Mercyhurst University, currently ranked #7 in the Atlantic region.
After the Lakers had taken the first and second doubles matches to jump off to a 2-0 lead, Langbroek and junior
Jose Carrillo got the Redhawks on the scoreboard with an 8-6 victory at third doubles.
"We played much more aggressive doubles today, taking third doubles and losing 8-6 at first doubles to a Mercyhurst team ranked #1 in the Atlantic division," head coach
Tom Linhart said. "There were some improvement made and we will get back to practice to prepare for tough matches next weekend."
The Redhawks took two of the top three singles matches to even the score. Barlotta won an impressive 6-1, 6-3 match over Joaquin Aguilera at third singles and Langbroek followed with a three set victory over Cormac McCooey at second singles. Unfortunately, that was all the Redhawks could muster as Mercyhurst won the three remaining singles matches in straight set victories.
The 11-5 Redhawks travel to Massachusetts next for weekend matches against Merrimack and Bentley University. Both teams are ranked in the top ten in the East Region.
