ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Roberts Wesleyan men's tennis team stayed alive for a berth in the East Coast Conference Championships with a 6-3 win over Daemen College on Thursday.
The No. 3 doubles team of
Paul Langbroek and
Jose Carrillo opened the scoring with an 8-4 win. Daemen came back with a victory at No. 2 doubles. The Redhawks took the lead for good, and didn't look back when
Hugo Ball-Greene and
Dennis Barlotta won in a tiebreaker 9-8(4) over David Gonzales and Ricardo Ruiz at first doubles.
Carrillo and freshman
Mathew Cruz won their singles matches in straight sets at the No. 5 and No. 6 slots. Langbroek then secured the victory at second singles with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Mayer Veitengruber. Ball-Greene finished the scoring for the Redhawks with a 7-5, 6-1 win over David Gonzales.
The Redhawks are in action Friday when they host conference rival St. Thomas Aquinas at 1 p.m. The winner of that match will secure a place in the conference championship tournament.
