"This 2021 class is going to bring additional quality, experience and talent to our already solid core." Roberts head coach
Scott Reber said. "We just graduated only two players last year so we didn't have many open spots. We are adding two players from our Development Team (Joe Marziale and Andrew Putnam) in addition to these new guys. I fully expect all of them to do well both on the field and in the classroom. We're excited to bring everyone in and get started on the 2021 championship season!"
Let's get to know the newcomers a little better:
Ollie Ardle, a native of Wales, comes to Roberts after a standout career at Genesee Community College. The midfielder is the son of Jenny and Glenn and plans on studying business.
Ollie received his Associate's degree in physical education from GCC, where he was a two-time regional and conference champion. He registered 12 goals, including three game-winners, and 10 assists while earning all-region and all-conference honors in 2020.
Ollie said he chose Roberts because: "I feel as though it is the best suit for me to continue with my academics along with playing soccer at the highest level."
Caleb DaSilva is an incoming freshman from Markham, Ontario. The 6-foot, 3-inch goalkeeper is the son of Lisa and Edgar and has yet to decide on a major.
Caleb has enjoyed great success on the field and played for the Masters Futbol Academy where he was awarded MVP. He was also named Athlete of the Year his senior year in high school.
Caleb said he chose Roberts because: "Playing soccer at a high level in the United States was always a big goal of mine ever since I entered high school. Roberts is a great choice as it is a highly competitive program that is not too far from home. The added bonus of playing alongside my older brother (Josh) made my decision that much easier. Roberts provides a close family environment that leaves me eager to join the camaraderie."
Roberts is the only Division II program in the Rochester area. The Redhawks compete in the East Coast Conference and the men's soccer team opens its season on Sept. 2 with a non-conference game at Malone.
