Redhawks' Season Ends in NCCAA Semifinals

Box Score KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Roberts Wesleyan University women's soccer team dominated play for 110 minutes against Oakland City University in a National Christian College Athletic Association Division I semifinal match on Friday afternoon.
The top-seeded Redhawks outshot No. 4 Oakland City 29-1 through regulation time and two 10-minute overtimes, but neither team was able to register a goal in a game that will officially be recorded as a 0-0 tie. The Mighty Oaks, however, outlasted Roberts 4-3 in penalty kicks to advance to Saturday's NCCAA championship match.
"Our team played well today, but just couldn't get that game-winning goal," Roberts coach Sarah McClellan said. "We feel a bit unlucky not to be advancing, but we had a good showing.
"Our staff is very proud of this great group of players who are even better people. It will be exciting to see who we continue to build on this season for the future."
Roberts (14-4-2), which opened the season with 12 new players and 12 returning players, completed its most successful season since the 2010 team went 15-6-3. Ironically, the 2010 squad also tied in the NCCAA semifinals and was eliminated on penalty kicks.
Oakland City converted its first four penalty kicks before its fifth attempt sailed high. Roberts had a chance to extend, but the Redhawks fifth attempt hit the crossbar and rebounded into the field of play to end the match.
Ella White, Justine Sharda and Cami Brescia converted penalty kicks for Roberts, which outshot Oakland City 23-1 in regulation and held a 10-0 advantage in shots on goal in the match.  Junior goalkeeper Nicolette Knauf registered her eighth shutout of the season for the Redhawks.
Sharda was named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Redhawks, who were making their second NCCAA semifinal appearance since 2019, outshot their opponents 70-8 while outscoring them 7-0 in regulation during their three matches in Florida this week.
Oakland City will play either No. 2 Grace College, the defending national champion, or No. 3 Trinity Christian College in the championship match at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
