STATEN ISLAND, NY – Behind another outstanding performance by freshman Antonie Pieterse, the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Swimming and Diving team finished the first day of competition at the East Coast Conference (ECC) Championship meet in first place overall.
Roberts scored 45 points and holds a two-point edge over Staten Island in the team scoring.
Pieterse and the Redhawks opened the meet with a record-setting performance in the 200-yard free relay as Pieterse teamed with sophomore Brodyn Baldwin, junior Andon Fedor and sophomore Avery Fedor to record a time of 1:29.15 to set the new school mark.
Pieterse swam an opening leg of 20.72 to break the 50-yard freestyle record and then added a school record in the 200 IM with his time of 1:52.35.
The Redhawks capped the night with another relay school record as freshman Ethan Springle, junior Tommy Booth, Pieterse and Avery Fedor as the relay clocked 400-medley relay time of 3:36.07 for the new school record.
In total for the first day, the Roberts Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams combined for 27 personal best swims and 14 additional season-best times.
Competition concludes with two sessions Saturday with the first starting at 9:30 a.m. at Staten Island.
