Women Lead After Record Breaking Day One

STATEN ISLAND, NY – Three school records fall and the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Swimming and Diving team lead in the team scoring after the first day of competition at the East Coast Conference (ECC) Championship event hosted by the College of Staten Island.

The Roberts women scored 70 points on the first evening of events to lead the team scoring as Staten Island recorded 38 points.

The women started the event strong with a record-breaking finish in the first race of the schedule as junior Joane Arzalluz Garzon teamed with freshman Ruby Flanigen, freshman Cara Pillittieri and senior Mya Webb to break the school record in the 200-yard free relay with a time of 1:42.30.

Flanigen added a record-breaking swim in the 200 IM with her time of 2:19.75 and Webb broke the school record in the 50 free with a 24.47 swim.

In total for the first day, the Roberts Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams combined for 27 personal best swims and 14 additional season-best times.

Competition concludes with two sessions Saturday with the first starting at 9:30 a.m. at Staten Island.
