Women's Swimming and DIving Jumps to Third after Day Two

PISCATAWAY, NJ – Senior Emma Dicob set the school record and won the 1-meter diving and the 800-yard Freestyle Relay also raced to a top finish to lead the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Swimming and Diving team on the second day of the Metropolitan Collegiate Championships Saturday in New Jersey.

The Redhawks made a jump in the team standings and moved all the way to third place with 622 points. In a close battle for the top five places, Sarah Lawrence College leads (675 points) and Gordon College (642) is second. Roberts jumped ahead of Hunter College (613), Baruch College (605) and Mount St. Mary College (418) on day two. John Jay, Brooklyn and SUNY Maritime round out the team scoring.

Dicob had a great day with a new school-record score of 480.55 to win the competition on the 1-meter board. Junior Sidney Simmons was second with a score of 383.50 and freshman Ellie Herbert was fourth with her score of 314.00.

The 800 Free Relay wrapped up the night with a strong finish as the team of freshman Teagan Lewis, freshman Skye Micklethwaite, senior Joane Arzalluz-Garzon and sophomore Cara Pillittieri raced to an 8:14.69 finish.

The same relay order was third in the 200 Medley Relay to start the evening session. The quartet finished in 1:56.87.

Arzalluz-Garzon added a second-place finish in the 400 IM with her time of 5:00.19 and Micklethwaite was close behind in third with her time of 5:01.10 and sophomore Paige Kern was sixth in 5:31.16. Junior Leanne Dolph won the B-Final with a time of 5:48.03.

Pillittieri was third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:02.54 while Lewis was third in the 100 breaststroke as she clocked a time of 1:14.29. Dolph was seventh in the race with a time of 1:19.12.

Junior Juliana French was eighth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:10.88 to round out the top finishers for the Redhawks on day two.

Competition concludes Sunday with the team champions and individual awards announced at the conclusion of the event.
