Women’s Swimming and Diving Wins METS Team Championship

PISCATAWAY, NJ – In one of the closest finishes in conference history, the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Swimming and Diving team pushed ahead in the team standings late in the meet and then set a school record and won the 400-yard Freestyle Relay to seal the championship victory Sunday night on the final day of the Metropolitan Collegiate Championship meet in New Jersey.

The women used a solid night including the top three place finishes in the 3-meter diving competition to push ahead of Sarah Lawrence College near the end of the meet and led by a slim three points heading into the final relay.

Roberts finished first with 992 points, Sarah Lawrence was second (981 points) and Gordon College (943) was third followed by Baruch College (909), Hunter College (891), Mount St. Mary College (591), John Jay College (460), Brooklyn College (431) and SUNY Maritime (305). Head Coach Sara Smith was named the Coach of the Meet.

Senior Emma Dicob won the 3-meter diving with her second school record effort of the meet as she scored 465.25. She was named the Female Diver of the meet and Diving Coach Jackie Bors was named the Diving Coach of the meet.

Junior Sidney Simmons was second in the 3-meter event with a 429.85 score and freshman Ellie Herbert was third with her score of 248.80.

The record-setting relay featured sophomore Cara Pillittieri, Skye Micklethwaite, senior Joane Arzalluz-Garzon and freshman Teagan Lewis as the team raced to a winning time of 3:45.62.

Pillittieri added a second-place finish in the 1650 freestyle race with her time of 11:52.15 and Micklethwaite was fourth with a time of 12:34.58.

Micklethwaite was busy as she added a fourth-place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:18.68. Sophomore Paige Kern scored points with a seventh-place finish in 2:27.26.

Lewis was fourth in the 100 freestyle with a time of 55.62 and Arzalluz-Garzon had a second-place finish in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:40.97. Junior Leanne Dolph was fifth in the breaststroke race with her time of 2:52.40.

Junior Juliana French was third in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:52.75 to round out the scoring for the Redhawks on the final day of the championships.
