SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Roberts Wesleyan University women's cross country team captured the NCAA Division II East Region Championship two weeks ago.
The Redhawks completed their season on Saturday at the NCAA Division II Championship Meet at at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento, Calif.
"I thought that both teams ran very well," Roberts Director of Cross Country and Track and Field
Andrew Dorr said, referring to both the women's and men's programs. "They looked really good out there and we had the right attitude going into the meet. We were prepared to be in a chaotic, challenging atmosphere and I thought that we handled it well."
Junior
Rachel Horner-Richardson led the way for Roberts, completing the 6K course in 22:55.8 to place 174
th as Roberts finished 31
st out of 34 teams.
Senior
Kylee Odell finished 178
th (23:00.4) and junior
Lydia Roselund was 198
th (23:21.2) for Roberts.
First-year runners
Paige Reeser (217
th) and
Evelyn Schmit (246
th) took the next two spots for the Redhawks.
Junior
Gianna Tribotte placed 250
th and freshman
Kennedy Mitchell was 256
th for Roberts, which has won 10 straight East Coast Conference titles.
"Our race plan was to go out and establish a good position, to bide our time and then move up throughout the second half of the race, and we did that," Dorr said. "Nationals in Division II is no joke. It's the real deal and it is extremely competitive."
