STATEN ISLAND, NY – On the strength of two relay school records, a pair of individual records by senior Mya Webb and a sweep of the diving events by junior Emma Dicob, the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Swimming and Diving team to a fourth straight East Coast Conference (ECC) team championship as the Redhawks wrapped up the championship weekend Saturday afternoon.
Roberts nearly doubled the score of second-place Staten Island with 207 points and the Dolphins were second with 121 points.
Dicob was named the Diver of the Meet as she posted wins in both the 1- and 3-meter events. The tandem of freshmen Ruby Flanigen and Joane Arzalluz Garzon shared the Rookie of the Meet award and Webb was named the Swimmer of the Meet.
"Not only did we swim fast, we saw some of the fastest swimming in team history," said Interim Head Coach Shane Logan. "I'm so proud of the swimmers and divers for all the hard work they put in these past few months! That hard work paid off with amazing performances this weekend."
Webb set school records in the 200 freestyle and the 50 backstroke for Roberts with the backstroke records coming in the opening leg of the record-breaking 200 medley relay. Webb swam with Garzon, Flanigen and freshman Cara Pillittieri for the record relay in 1:56.17. Webb's backstroke time was 29.34.
Webb added the 200 free record with her winning time of 1:58.68.
At the end of the meet, Garzon, Pillittieri, Flanigen and Webb swam together again to break the school record in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:47.45.
For the weekend, the Roberts teams combined for 80 personal best times, 45 season-best times, 14 school records and a pair of NCAA B-Cut times.
The Roberts swimmers are off until January 6 but the Divers are scheduled to compete December 5-6 at RIT.
