ALLENDALE, MI – Graduate student Kylee Odell was among the top finishers for the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's and Women's Track and Field team representatives that traveled to Michigan Friday for the Grand Valley State University season=opening meet.
Odell was 11th overall in the Mile for the Redhawks with her time of 5:04.26 and led three fellow Roberts Wesleyan women's runners to top-15 finishes.
Freshman Evelyn Schmit took 13th in the 3K race (heat 2) with a time of 10:58.16 and fellow freshman Kennedy Mitchell was close behind in 14th position with her time of 11:18.83. Schmit added a 37th place finish in the mile as she crossed the line in 5:42.37.
On the men's side at Grand Valley, a pair of runner-up finishes highlighted the meet.
Freshman Chris Matzke was second in the 3K (heat 2) with his time of 8:56.71 and senior Jackson Doran clocked a 14:43.92 to place second in his heat of the 5K for the Redhawks.
Three runners joined Martzke in heat 2 of the 3K with top-10 finishes as freshmen Jakob Zibbel, Nathan Demarest and Caleb Price finished 7th, 8th and 9th in the race finishing within one second of each other.
Sophomore Caleb Belanger was 4th in his heat of the 5K with a time of 15:25.85, graduate student Owen White placed 6th in his heat in 14:20.68 and senior Zachary Hall was 23rd in the third heat with his time of 14:59.41.
Senior Landon Schreib led 10 Roberts runners in the Mile with his 23rd-place finish in 4:25.90. He was followed by Belanger, graduate student Theodore Pintabona, freshmen Juvenal Diaz-Cortes, Boston Dues, Zibbel, Aiden McDonald, Eli Mackey, Demarest and sophomore Micah Barber who finished from 28th to 45th place for Roberts.
Senior
Patrick Martin took 39th in the 800-meter race and led the 4x400 that included Diaz-Cortes, Pintabona and Doran to an 18th-place finish in 3:38.09.
