WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan University women's cross country team opened its season with a fourth-place finish at the Daemen Alumni Invitational Saturday morning at Bassett Park.
"Today doesn't tell us a whole lot, but we checked the boxes that we needed to check," Roberts Director of Cross Country & Track and Field
Andrew Dorr said. "We just wanted to go out and run the course and run it in groups of runners."
Junior
Rachel Horner-Richardson was the top finisher for the Redhawks, completing the 5k course, which will be the site of the East Coast Conference Championship Oct. 26, in 19:48.5 to place seventh. Classmate
Lydia Roselund was right on her shoulder, finishing ninth in 19:49.2.
The race marked the Roberts debut of five first-year runners –
Paige Reeser,
Zoe Maupin,
Kennedy Mitchell,
Amelia Mickelson and
Evelyn Schmit – who finished 21
st through 25
th.
Other finishers for Roberts were junior
Gianna Tribotte (27
th), sophomore
Jessica Montemorano (37
th) and junior
Kaitlyn Goodwin (38
th).
The Redhawks return to action on Sept. 28 for the Harry F. Anderson Invitational on Homecoming Weekend.
