AKRON, OH – Sophomore Austin Melvin led the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Track and Field team as the pole vaulters competed at the Akron Haynes Lancaster Open Friday night in Ohio.
Melvin placed fifth overall as he cleared 4.95 meters (16' 2 ¾"). Newcomers Terron Metz (12th) and Noah Leathersich (13th) each cleared 4.80 meters (15' 9") with season best efforts.
Freshman Luke Martinez was next for the Redhawks as he placed 15th with a final mark of 4.50 meters (14' 9") as did sophomore Thomas Acosta who placed 16th overall.
Fellow sophomore Chase McFadden vaulted to a season-best height of 4.35 meters (14' 3 ¼") and took 17th position in the final standings.
Roberts completed the first semester schedule and will resume competition in January.
