Bobby McColl Named Head Coach of Women’s Soccer

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Roberts Wesleyan University Executive Director of Athletics Bob Segave is proud to announce the return of Bobby McColl for his second stint as head women's soccer coach.

McColl led the Redhawks for three seasons, compiling an overall record of 35-20-5 as Roberts transitioned from NAIA to NCAA Division II.

A native of Glasgow, Scotland, McColl guided Roberts to a 12-5-3 record, a berth in the East Coast Conference (ECC) Championship game and spot in the NCAA Division II Tournament in 2015, his final season.

"We are thrilled to welcome Bobby McColl back to the Redhawks as our head women's soccer coach," said Segave. "Coach McColl has an established record of success, including leading our women's program to its first NCAA DII Championship Tournament.  His passion for the game and his dedication to the DII philosophy of Life In the Balance will be a significant part of our holistic development of our student-athletes."

"I am delighted to be given the opportunity to return to Roberts," said new Women's Soccer Coach Bobby McColl. "Roberts played a significant part in my development as a coach in my previous spell here and holds a special significance for myself and my family. I am excited to build on the excellent work that has been done since I left in 2016 and I am excited about the potential of this current group of players. I would like to thank Bob Segave and the search committee for this opportunity."

McColl spent the previous six seasons as head coach of the men's soccer program at Houghton University, where he led the Highlanders to a share of the 2021 Empire 8 spring regular season title and an appearance in the E-8 championship match in the fall.

He served as the head men's soccer coach at Daemen for three seasons after leaving Roberts in 2015. McColl also served as the head men's soccer coach at Greenville University from 2012-13 and worked as a graduate assistant with the men's and women's programs at Roberts from 2009-12.

McColl graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Sports and Wellness Management from Trinity International University (Ill.) in 2009 and earned his Master's degree in Strategic Leadership from Roberts in 2011. He has been the Director of Player and Coach Development for the Cobras FC since 2015 and has extensive experience in sports ministry.

McColl played for three seasons at Union University (Tenn.) before finishing his collegiate career at Trinity International.  He also played with the Scotland Under-19 National Team, as well as with Motherwell FC in the Scottish Premier League.

McColl succeeds Jeff Viera, who directed the Redhawks to a 5-10-1 record last fall. He began his new duties on February 10.
