Redhawks Swimmers and Divers Reach Out And Serve In Florida

FORT PIERCE, Fla. - When the Roberts Wesleyan University Swimming and Diving Team goes on the road, they take their hearts and helping hands with them.

During their training trip to Florida in early January, the Redhawks spent an afternoon sorting and packing food at Mustard Seed Ministries in Fort Pierce.

More than 30 athletes and coaches spent four hours volunteering at Mustard Seed's Thrift Store and Food Pantry.

"The teamwork was just remarkable," Roberts head coach Sara Smith said. "It was pretty impressive. They figured out a system and they got it done."

This is the second time the Redhawks have volunteered at Mustard Seed and it is estimated that their efforts will help nearly 500 families.

The opportunity to help at Mustard Seed was suggested by Roberts graduates Chuck and Susan Lowell.

Smith said she hopes to make the visit to Mustard Seed an annual event as long as the Redhawks are able to travel to the area and train.

"We'll continue to serve every time in the area because I think that it's an obvious need that they have," Smith said.
