Antonie Pieterse Finishes Season With Another School Record

INDIANAPOLIS – Antonie Pieterse concluded his historic first season for the Roberts Wesleyan University men's swimming and diving team by setting another school record.

Pieterse, a freshman from Pretoria, South Africa, finished the 100-yard freestyle in 44 seconds on Saturday morning at the NCAA Division II Championships, cutting nearly three-quarters of a second off his previous mark of 44.73.

Pieterse, who was seeded 47th coming into the event, had the 24th-best time in the preliminaries. Despite the school record, he did not advance to the finals at the Indiana University Natatorium.

The event concluded an unprecedented season for Pieterse, which saw him become the first swimmer from Roberts to qualify for the NCAA Championships.

He finished sixth in the 100 butterfly on Thursday, becoming the first Redhawk to earn All-American status in swimming.

Pieterse set 10 individual school records and swam on three record-breaking relays this season.
