COLONIA, NJ – Senior Jackson Doran won the 1500-meter race and freshman Thomas McConnelee broke a pair of school records for the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Track and Field team this past weekend at the Geneseo Early Season Invitational and both were honored by the East Coast Conference (ECC) for their achievements.
Doran was named the ECC Track Athlete of the Week and McConnelee was named to the ECC Weekly Honor Roll.
Doran raced to a first-place finish in the 1500-meter race Saturday afternoon at the Geneseo Early Season Invitational. He clocked a time of 3:58.82 to win in a field of 100 runners. Later in the day, he placed seventh in the 800-meter race with a time of 1:56.20 as he raced in a field of 99 runners.
McConnelee broke the school record in the Hammer Throw and improved his own record in the Discus over the weekend at the Geneseo Invitational. On Friday afternoon, he smashed the school record in the Hammer Throw with a toss of 55.96 meters (185' 7") breaking the old school record by more than 10 feet. The next day, he improved the school record in Discus that he had set in the first meet of the year as he uncorked a throw of 56.16 meters (184' 3").
A majority of the Track and Field team will compete at the Brockport Multi and Invitational Friday and Saturday and a select group of athletes will travel to the Bucknell Invitational in Pennsylvania.
