ROCHESTER, NY – Senior Zachary Hall and freshman Thomas McConnelee led the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Track and Field team to the team title at the East Coast Conference (ECC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships Thursday at Roberts Stadium.
The Redhawks raced to the team championship with 217 points followed by St. Thomas Aquinas (133 points), Staten Island (92), Daemen (76), Queens (69) and Molloy (61).
Hall raced to a first-place finish in the 10K race early in the day with a time of 32:18.34 and late in the day he led the 4x800 relay to a win as he teamed with freshman Jakob Zibbel, freshman Trevor Heitkamp and senior Landon Schreib as the relay clocked an 8:11.45.
McConnelee was first in the shot put (15.70 meters) and first in the discus (54.66 meters) to set the meet record and was also second in the hammer throw with a personal best and school-record throw of 61.67 meters.
Graduate student Owen White won the 1500 with his time of 3:56.96, senior Jackson Doran was first in the 800 with a time of 1:52.71, freshman Jaden Simmons won the long jump with a leap of 6.88 meters and freshman Austin Melvin led a Roberts sweep in the pole vault with his winning jump of 5.0 meters.
Joining Melvin on the pole vault podium were freshman Chase McFadden, sophomore Jack Sauder, junior Corden Zimmerman, freshman Therron Percival and sophomore Braden Shaw as the Redhawks took each of the top six places in the event.
Junior Ethan LaClair (javelin), freshman Calvin Lill (high jump) and sophomore Russell Mulley (3K Steeple chase) had second place finishes.
Simmons was third in the 200, white was third in the 800, freshman Diego Arellano Jasso was third in both the high jump and 110 hurdles and fifth in the javelin. Zibbel was third in the 1500, freshman Caleb Price was third in the 5K, freshman Owen Tarolli was third in the steeple chase and sophomore Hayden Kiehl was third in the triple jump.
Also scoring for Roberts were Schreib (fourth in the 1500), Heitkamp (fifth in the 1500), freshman Charlie Matzke (fourth in the 5K), sophomore Vincent Ciraolo (fifth in the 5K), junior Xavier Hernandez (sixth in the 10K), Zimmerman (fourth in the 110 hurdles), freshman Owen Callahan (fourth in the Hammer and fifth in the Shot Put), freshman Evariste Omebe (fourth in the Triple Jump) and sophomore Micah Barber (sixth in the 800).
