UTICA, NY – Sophomore Austin Melvin set the school pole vault record for the third time this season and vaulted to the No. 2 spot in the national standings as he won the pole vault for the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Track and Field team at the Blue and Orange Invitational at Utica University.
Melvin cleared the record height of 5.36 meters (17' 7") to win the Invitational division of the competition. After clearing the bar at 16' 10" to seal the victory for the day, he raised the bar to 17' 7" to go for the new record and hit his third vault for the record-setting effort.
Freshman Noah Leathersich was second as he cleared 4.93 meters (16' 2") for a new PR and the No. 3 spot on the all-time Roberts list.
Sophomore Terron Metz (4.78) and freshman Luke Martinez (4.78 meters) tied for third.
Sophomore Owen Callahan finished ninth in the weight throw with a toss of 15.92 meters (52' 2 ¾").
Roberts will compete at the East Coast Conference (ECC) Championships February 15 at the Ocean Breeze Complex.
