SHIPPENSBURG, PA – Sophomores Kennedy Benjamins and Karis Kraf vaulted late into the night and took the top two place finishes for the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Track and Field team at the Shippensburg University PR Bonanza Midweek meet Thursday in Pennsylvania.
It was not until nearly everyone had left the stadium for the day and a portable light system was put in place, that the final pole vaulters finally finished the event.
Both Kraf and Benjamins passed until only one other vaulter was still in the competition at 3.70 meters (12' 1 ½"). Kraf cleared the bar on her first attempt and Benjamins used her second run to clear the bar and move on to the 3.85-meter height.
The only non-Redhawk left was Aina Galan from East Stroudsburg and she missed on all three of her attempts while Kraf and Benjamins cleared the bar on their first attempts.
Both sophomores also cleared the next height (4.0 meters/ 13' 1 ½") on the first attempt but missed on all three tries at 4.11 meters to end the competition.
