ROCHESTER, NY – Sophomore Kennedy Benjamins raced to a first-place finish Sunday in the 100 -dash to lead the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Track and Field team in less than perfect weather conditions Sunday at the University of Rochester Alumni Meet at Fauver Stadium.
Kennedy won easily with her top time of 12.50 seconds finishing nearly a half second ahead of the rest of the field. Freshman Abigail Bowen (12.99) was third and sophomore Alanna Daniel (13.58) was sixth in the race.
Bowen added a second-place finish in the 200-meter race with a personal best time of 26.86 seconds. Freshman Solki Martin-Lacayo was eighth with a PR time of 28.003 and Daniel placed ninth in 28.010.
Martin-Lacayo added a fifth-place finish in the 400 with a time of 1:01.86.
Freshman Natalie Murray was second in the High Jump with a height of 1.49 meters (4' 10 ½") and sophomore Madelyn Rutledge was fifth in the Long Jump with a mark of 5.36 meters (17' 7") to tie her personal best.
Senior Gianna Tribotte led a trio of finishers in the 3K Steeple Chase with a fourth-place finish in 12:18.61 for a new personal best effort. Junior Jessica Montemorano (12:42.28) was seventh and freshman Olivia Fesmire (12:51.22) was ninth in the race.
Freshman thrower Ava Wierda had three top-10 finishes as she placed fifth in the Hammer Throw with a toss of 41.66 meters (136' 8"), sixth in the Discus Throw with a mark of 33.47 meters (109' 9") and was ninth in the Shot Put with a heave of 9.85 meters (32' 3 ½").
The Redhawks are scheduled to compete in the RIT Invitational Friday and the Grand Valley Extra Weekend Meet Saturday before hosting the East Coast Conference (ECC) Championships at Roberts Stadium April 30.
