GENESEO, NY – Graduate student Jackson Doran and a group of six pole vaulters that dominated the top seven spots in the final standings led the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Track and Field team at the Geneseo Invitational that wrapped up Saturday afternoon.
Doran was the top finisher in the 800-meter run for the Redhawks and was also the anchor leg of the 4x400 relay that placed eighth overall in the final event of the night.
His winning 800 time was 1:53.51 and the team of senior Micah Cornfield, sophomore Juvenal Diaz-Cortes and freshman Roman Smith for a time of 3:31.74 in the 4x400 relay.
Sophomore Jordan Bryner became just the second vaulter in school history to clear the 17-foot mark as he won the invitational pole vault competition and cleared 5.20 meters (17' ¾"). Freshman Noah Leathersich (5.00 meters) was third, sophomore Austin Melvin (4.80 meters) was fourth, sophomore Terron Metz 4.65 meters) finished fifth, freshman Luke Martinez (4.65 meters) was sixth and sophomore Thomas Acosta (4.35 meters) placed seventh for the Redhawks.
Sophomore Trevor Heitkamp captured fourth place in the 1500 with his PR time of 4:00.06 and fellow sophomore Owen Callahan was fifth in the shot put with a huge PR of 14.27 meters (46' 10") which was more than five feet past his previous outdoor best.
Martinez added an eighth-place finish in the long jump with a final mark of 6.39 meters (20' 11 ¾") and freshman William Miller took eighth in the discus throw in his first outdoor meet with a toss of 40.06 meters (131' 5").
Sophomore Calvin Lill placed ninth in the high jump as he cleared the 1.83-meter bar (6' 0") while sophomore Diego Arellano Jasso was 10th in the 400 hurdles and fellow sophomore Owen Tarolli was 10th in the 3K Steeplechase.
The Redhawks will compete next weekend at the Bison Outdoor Classic at Bucknell University in Pennsylvania.
