If you were looking for a fast start on Tuesday night against the Houghton Highlanders at the Voller Athletic Center, you got it as the Raiders won going away 64-48. Roberts jumped all over Houghton smothering the Highlanders the entire first half. Houghton had been averaging 89 points and 10.5 three pointers per game but the Raiders went into the half time break with a 42-13 lead. Defensively, Roberts kept the Highlanders to 0-8 from behind the three point line and 12% from the floor.
Roberts closed out every outside shot aggressively and when Houghton got into the lane the Raiders were there with seven first half blocked shots.
The second half was far less intense on the defensive end and less productive offensively, but the Raiders walked away with their first American Mideast Conference win of the year and extended their unbeaten record to 5-0.

Dan Foley's 18 points and 8 rebounds.
Jordan Heath had his first double-double of the year with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Once again the bench provided solid contributions from several players.
Curt Despard pulled down 8 rebounds and Dom Williams scored 7 points. William Kemp Harris and Herb Alexander also provided a first half spark at both ends of the floor. Houghton's Devin Paige led all scorers with 23 points.
Next up for the Raiders will be their biggest challenge of the young season as they travel to Daemen College in Buffalo, NY. There, Roberts will take on NAIA D1 preseason #4 Robert Morris University out of Chicago, Illinois at 3:30 on Friday. On Saturday at 12:00 the Raiders will face NAIA D2 preseason #4 Cornerstone (4-0) from Grand Rapids, Michigan.
