ROCHESTER, N.Y. - It was a tight match throughout the duration of the contest, but the Roberts Wesleyan women's tennis team ended up on the losing end of a 5-4 decision against the University of the District of Columbia on Saturday afternoon at Midtown Athletic Club.
The Redhawks were down 2-1 after doubles play. No. 1 doubles team of
Nthabi Mogopodi and
Andrea Gallardo defeated Dominika Hadnadova and Anastasia Khomyachenko, 8-3 for the lone doubles match victory for Roberts.
In singles play, senior
Marine Kennel and freshman
Laura Freeman came out with wins after grueling three set matches. Kennel defeated Khomyachenko, 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 at the No. 3 spot while Freeman fought to a 6-4, 5-7, 6-0 victory over Estefania Castrillon in the No. 5 slot. Gallardo was the other winner for the Redhawks after a retired match by Firebird's Paula Avellan.
Roberts Wesleyan (5-2, 2-2 ECC) will host Le Moyne College on Thursday, October 5th at 4 p.m. on the campus tennis courts.
