Tomei and Brinkel Earn IWLCA Second-Team All-American Honors

NORTHBOROUGH, MASS. - The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) released its Division II All-American teams Wednesday afternoon. For the first time in Roberts history, two women's lacrosse players made the list. Senior midfielder Emily Tomei and senior attacker Lindsey Brinkel were named to the second-team.

48 student-athletes across the country representing 21 different institutions were selected for one of the 2021 Division II All-American teams.

Tomei, a Webster, N.Y. native, has added many awards and honors to her resume over the past four years, but an All-American honor ties the bow on a successful career.

A key contributor to the most successful season in the history of Roberts athletics, Tomei finished the 2021 season with 51 goals and 14 assists. She had a .855 shot-on-goal percentage and was an asset on the offensive and defensive ends with 62 draw controls and 24 ground balls. In the 2021 season, Tomei topped the East Coast Conference list for goals, was second in shots, and third in points. She started all 16 games for the Redhawks this season.

In the NCAA, Tomei was thirteenth in the nation for goals (51) and 24th for points (65).

In her four years, Tomei started every game she played (56). She netted 159 goals and recorded 41 assists. The recent graduate had an even 200 points in her career while picking up 109 ground balls and recording 207 draw controls.

Brinkel, who has played for the Redhawks for three seasons after transferring from Edinboro has made a major impact on the offensive side of the field for Roberts. The Rochester, N.Y. native led the Redhawks in points with 91 in total for the 2021 season off 34 goals and 57 assists. Brinkel led the nation in total assists and was second in NCAA Division II in assists per game (3.56). The attacker's 91 points also placed her fifth overall in the country for total points.

Last month Brinkel was named the East Coast Conference Attacker of the Year. In the past three seasons at Roberts Brinkel has totaled 70 goals and 104 assists.

The two players helped lead the Redhawks to the most successful season in program history and one of most accomplished seasons in Roberts' athletics history. The Redhawks won its first ECC title and advanced to the final four at the NCAA Division II National Championships where they eventually fell to Lindenwood, 12-9.
