Final Results
BROCKPORT, NY – Freshman thrower Thomas McConnelee set the school record in the Weight Throw and fellow freshman Austin Melvin added a late record in the Pole Vault to lead the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Track and Field team Friday in the SUNY Brockport Rust Buster event at the Special Events and Recreation Center.
McConnelee improved his school record in the weight throw with a winning toss of 17.90 meters (58' 8 ¾") and then later in the meet, won the Shot Put with the top throw of 14.69 meters (48' 2 ½). Freshman Owen Callahan was ninth in the Shot Put with his throw of 12.84 meters (42' 1 ½").
Melvin capped the meet with a record-setting performance in hte Pole Vault as he cleared the 5.06-meter (16' 7 1/4") bar to win the event. The old record at Roberts was set by Jim Sweich of 16' 3 1/4" back in 2006.
Melvin was one of six vaulters that finished in the top-10 in the final event standings. Melvin was first with his record-breaking jump while sophomore Jack Sauder was second with a mark of 4.75 meters (15' 7"). Sophomore Cyrus Comfort finished fifth at 4.45 meters (14' 7 1/4") and junior Corden Zimmerman took seventh at 4.30 meters (14' 1 1/4") while freshman Chase McFadden was ninth and freshman Therron Percival was 10th each with the same 4.30 meter finish.
Graduate student Owen White had the top Roberts finish in the Mile with a third-place finish in 4:18.51.Senior Jackson Doran was fifth in 4:25.31 for the Redhawks.
The Redhawks had three top-10 finishes in the 500 meters as senior Patrick Martin placed sixth with a time of 1:12.11, junior Jordan Schlagenhauf was ninth in 1:20.43 and graduate student Connor Beagle was 10th with a time of 1:21.98.
In the 200 meter race Jaden Simmons took seventh with a time of 23.54.
In field events, sophomore
Hayden Khiel placed sixth in the triple jump with a final distance of 12.30 meters (40' 4 ¼").
