STATEN ISLAND, NY – The distance and middle distance runners secured four first-place finishes and the pole vaulters took the top six spots to lead the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Track and Field team to a runner-up position at the East Coast Conference (ECC) Championships Sunday night at the Ocean Breeze Complex.
Senior Zachary Hall won the 5K race, graduate student Owen White won both the mile and 3K races and senior Jackson Doran won the 800 to lead the way for the Redhawks.
Holy Family (147 points) won the team championship as Roberts placed second with 133 points. Felician (73 points) was third followed by Staten Island (64), St. Thomas Aquinas (39), Georgian Court (36), Molloy (26), Daemen (24), Queens (16).
Hall won the 5K with his time of 15:54.00 and fellow senior Landon Schreib was fourth in 16:01.11.
White led five Redhawks into the top seven spots in the mile with his winning time of 4:25.84. Freshman Trevor Heitkamp was second in 4:29.48. Freshman Aiden McDonald was fifth in 4:39.29, freshman Boston Dues was sixth in 4:39.65 and sophomore Vincent Ciraolo was seventh with a time of 4:42.55.
White later won the 3K race with a winning time of 8:51.91 and Heitkamp was second in 9:00.77 while Hall placed fourth in 9:12.05.
Freshman Austin Melvin led Roberts to the top six places in the pole vault as he won with a mark of 4.71 meters (15' 5 ½"). Sophomore Jack Sauder (4.71 meters) was second and fellow sophomore Braden Shaw was third at 4.56 meters (14' 11 ½"). Junior Corden Zimmerman was fourth at 4.41 meters (14' 5 ½") while freshmen Chase McFadden and Therron Percival tied for fifth with a mark of 4.26 meters (13' 11 ¾").
Additional top finishers for Roberts included freshman Thomas McConnellee with second-place finishes in both the shot put and weight throw. His mark in the weight throw was a school-record toss of 19.91 meters (58' 9"). Schreib was third and Dues was fourth in the 1000 meters and freshman Jaden Simmons was sixth in the long jump.
