BROCKPORT, NY – Freshman Austin Melvin won the Pole Vault and fellow freshman Jaden Simmons took second in the Long Jump and led the 4x100 Relay to a first-place finish as the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Track and Field team competed at the Brockport Multi and Invitational meet Sunday.
Melvin cleared 4.86-meters (15' 11 ¼") to win the Pole Vault as he led six Roberts vaulters to top-five finishes. Sophomore Jack Sauder (4.66-meters) was second while freshman Therron Percival, sophomore Braden Shaw and freshmen Chase McFadden and Oren Welch tied for fifth with each clearing the 4.31-meter bar.
Simmons teamed with freshman Evariste Omebe, Percival and sophomore Hayden Kiehl for a first-place finish in the 4x100 relay with a time of 44.52.
Simmons also placed second in the long jump as he hit 6.80 meters (22' 3 ¾").
Sophomore Micah Barber was second and freshman Boston Dues was third in the 800-meter race with times of 2:00.66 and 2:02.72 respectively.
Other top finishers included sophomore Russell Mulley who was second in the 3K Steeplechase with a time of 10:31.19, freshman Diego Arellano Jasso was third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.49 and freshman Owen Callahan placed fourth in the Hammer Throw (47.33 meters/155' 3") and sixth in the shot put (12.43 meters/40' 9 ½").
Junior Jordan Schlagenhauf was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles, junior Ethan LaClair was sixth in the javelin, the team of Dues, senior Patrick Martin, Barber and Simmons placed sixth in the 4x400 relay and senior Dawson LeVan placed ninth in the Discus with a personal best throw of 35.62 meters (116' 10").
Roberts is scheduled to compete at the Widener University Invitational next weekend in Pennsylvania.
