COLONIA, NJ – The Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Volleyball team started the season with a pair of wins over local rival D'Youville University and four players earned East Coast Conference (ECC) Weekly Awards as a result of the early team success.
Senior Moises Jimenez was named the Defensive Player of the Week, sophomore Landon Brouwer was named the Setter of the Week, freshman Jordan Hoover was named the Rookie of the Week and sophomore Ryan DeJohn earned a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll.
Jimenez led Roberts to a pair of wins to start the season with 16 digs in two victories over D'Youville including an 11-dig match Saturday in the home opener for the Redhawks. Brouwer dished out 76 assists (10.9 per set) and Hoover made an immediate impact for Roberts and helped the team to a pair of wins to start the season. He recorded 21 kills including 13 in his first collegiate match Thursday night. He had an impressive .400 attack percentage with just seven errors in 35 swings and added nine blocks.
DeJohn helped Roberts down D'Youville twice to open the year. He finished with 27 kills including 18 in the road opener in Buffalo, a .309 attack average, 11 digs and four blocks.
The Redhawks travel all the way to Hawaii this week for a pair of matches against the No. 2 ranked University of Hawaii.
