Women’s Track and Field Competes at RIT and Grand Valley

A pair of first-place finishes and several personal best marks highlighted a busy weekend for the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Track and Field team as the Redhawks competed at the Bill Q Invitational at RIT and a select number of runners traveled to Michigan for the Extra Weekend Meet at Grand Valley State.

At RIT, freshman Michaela Goettel posted a personal best time and won the 800 meters with a time of 2:17.87. She led the Redhawks to four top-10 finishes in the race as freshman Solki Martin-Lacayo placed second in 2:18.25, freshman Lydia Demarest was third in 2:18.43 and freshman Emma Lipa was eighth in 2:24.19. All four times were personal best efforts.

In the Pole Vault competition, Roberts captured the top five places in the final standings as sophomore Karis Kraf led the way at 3.90 meters (12' 9 ½") followed by junior Melia Couchman (3.80), sophomore Sarah Ouelette (3.50), freshman Natalie Murray (3.50) and sophomore Molly Winger (3.20).

The 4x100 relay with sophomore Aaliyah McCoy, freshman Abigail Bowen, sophomore Alanna Daniel and sophomore Kennedy Benjamins placed second in a season-best time of 49.20. The time ranks 11th in the East Region standings.

Bowen added a fourth-place finish in the 200 with a PR time of 26.57 and sophomore Zoe Maupin was ninth in the 1500 with a PR time of 4:54.56.

In the field events, freshman Ava Wierda recorded fourth top-10 finishes in the Hammer, Javelin Discus and a PR effort in the Shot Put. She threw 10.88 meters (35' 8 ½") to place seventh in the Shot Put.

Sophomore Madelyn Rutledge had a PR effort to place fourth in the long jump with a leap of 5.45 meters (17' 10 ¾") while senior Cristina Gonzalez-Simarro Rubio was eighth in the Javelin with a heave of 24.93 meters (81' 9").

At the Grand Valley meet, sophomore Evelyn Schmit clocked a personal best in the 1500 with a time of 4:48.45 and senior Lydia Roselund was close behind with a sub-5 minute time of 4:59.98.

Senior Rachel Horner-Richardson placed 17th and sophomore Paige Reeser was 19th in the 5K race and the duo had times of 17:49.9 and 17:51.19 respectively.

The Redhawks will compete Thursday at Roberts Stadium at the East Coast Conference (ECC) Outdoor Championship meet.
