On Friday evening, at the Nations of Coaches Classic held at Nyack College just outside of New York City this past weekend, Roberts defeated last year's Sunrise Conference champion, Fisher College, from Boston, Massachusetts 75-53. The Raiders then followed up their strong opening game of the classic on Saturday with an impressive 81-56 victory over host Nyack.
In Friday's contest against Fisher a five point half time lead quickly jumped to fourteen as
Dan Foley's follow up dunk and
Jordan Heath's three point transition bucket sparked an 11-2 Raider run. Roberts' team defense clamped down and held Fisher to only 19% shooting from the field in the second half and 28% for the game.
Senior captain,
Dan Foley filled the stat sheet with 22 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists, and 6 steals. Sophomore,
Jordan Heath, continued his torrid start to the year scoring 20 points and pulling down 6 rebounds.
Justin Andreozzi was once again a disruptive force on the defensive end allowing the transition game to get going and
Alif Bland led the team in rebounding with 9. Dom Williams and
Curt Despard provided solid post play coming off the bench to score 8 and 6 points respectively.
Fisher was led by senior guard, Louis Williams who scored 21 points.
The Raiders were ready for Saturday's matinee against NCAA D2, Nyack College, as Roberts exploded to a 21-2 start. Nyack fought back and cut the lead to 9 just before the half but a
Rashaad Stokelin shot at the buzzer extended the half time lead back to 13 points. A good start to the second half saw the Roberts lead grow to 18 points and the Raiders never looked back.
Dan Foley scored 21 points to lead the way in scoring.
Jordan Heath shot 7-8 from the floor for 17 points and also pulled down 6 boards.
Rashaad Stokelin had his best game of the young season with 13 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 steals. Justin Andreozzin scored 7 points and remained disruptive on defense causing 7 turnovers. Will Kemp-Harris came off the bench to chip in 8 points.
Nyack was led by Jamaur Jackson and Matt Morgan who each had 10 points.
Nyack Head Coach, Ted Quinn and Nyack College did a wonderful job hosting the weekend tournament. Jack Lovelace from the Nations of College Coaches gave an inspirational talk at the team brunch on Saturday morning encouraging all of the coaches and players to recognize the influence they have on others and their campus and to represent Christ through their actions in every situation.
Next up for the Raiders is arch rival Houghton College! Houghton will be coming to the Voller Athletic Center on Tuesday night for an 8:00 start time. The Highlanders are off to an impressive 2-0 start and will be facing a 4-0 Raider team. It will be both teams first America Mideast Conference game of the year. The VAC should be rocking!
