The Raiders dominated Point Park University last night at the Voller Athletic Center defeating the Pioneers 70-53. Point Park (Pittsburgh, Pa) came into the contest as the second highest scoring team in the American Mideast Conference averaging 88.7 points per game and showcasing two of the league's top five scorers, but the Raiders defense smothered Point Park at every turn. On the perimeter, Roberts limited the Pioneers to ten percent from behind the three point line giving up only two made threes out of twenty attempts. Inside, the Raiders made life just as difficult as Roberts blocked 14 shots.
Alif Bland, last week's player of the week in the AMC, blocked six shots in the first half and finished with seven on the evening.
Curt Despard finished the night with three blocks while
Jordan Heath and
Dan Foley each had two apiece.
In the first half the Raiders were paced by
Dan Foley and
Rashaad Stokelin. Foley went into intermission with 15 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists. Stokelin went 3-5 from behind the three point line and had 11 points at the half. Stokelin's final three of the half with less than a minute to play put the Raiders up 44-23.
Roberts outscored the Pioneers 16-4 to begin the second half and opened up a 33 point lead at 60-27 before cruising to a 70-53 victory.
Dan Foley finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds,
Rashaad Stokelin 14 points, and
Jordan Heath 11 points and 7 boards to lead Roberts. Kris Douse had 14 points for Point Park.
Roberts has won five in a row and seven out of their last eight games to improve their overall record to 14-11, 8-6 in the AMC.
Next up for the Raiders is the #1 team in the country. Walsh University, 24-0 and last year's NAIA D2 runner-up, will be visiting the Voller Athletic Center at 4:00 on Saturday, February 12th. Walsh handled Roberts easily in their first meeting in Canton, Ohio back on January 4
th. It is the last home game of the year for Roberts who will be recognizing their senior players,
Dan Foley,
Rashaad Stokelin,
Justin Andreozzi,
Jake Russell, and
Curt Despard. It should be an electric atmosphere and the game of the week in the Rochester area.
