GENEVA, OHIO (February 1, 2015) – Roberts Wesleyan had a record-breaking weekend, setting six school records as they competed at the SPIRE Midwest Open.
The Redhawks managed to set new record times in both the men's and women's 200m and Distance Medley Relays as well as the women's 3,000m and 4x400m Relay.
Freshman sprinter
Chelsea Hayward continued her successful college career as she was a part of the Distance Medley Relay team that took second place with a program-record time of 12:00.54, shattering the previous best time of 12:14.47. The team of
Rachel Hutchinson,
Rachel Hust,
Rachel Prutsman, and Hayward also cruised past the NCAA Division II provisional time of 12:10.84.
In the men's version, the Redhawks also took second place with a time of 10:13.96, which bested the previous record time of 10:22.02. The team was comprised of
Aaron Bellomo,
Thomas Rodger,
Keith Pease, and
Gabe Rivera.
The women's 4x400m Relay took sixth place as
Danielle Budd,
Brianna Calderon, Hayward, and Hust finished with school record time of 4:05.32.
Hayward also ran her way to set a new school record in the 200m as she took ninth place with a time of 25.60. Prutsman also took seventh place in the 3,000m with a school record time of 9:57.81.
Despite taking 18
th place in the men's 200m, senior sprinter
Gabe Rivera set a program record with his time of 22.56.
Roberts Wesleyan also saw success in the field events as
Victoria Houser placed 13
th in the Weight Throw with a distance of 14.29m. Seven of the throwers that finished ahead of her were from Division I programs.
For the men's team,
Aaron McGinnis took 10
th place in the Long Jump with a leap of 6.35m.
Both teams will be in action next Saturday when they compete in the College at Brockport's Golden Eagle Invitational.
