SOUTH HUNTINGTON, N.Y. (February 22, 2015) – The Indoor Track & Field teams added some new hardware to their trophy case on Saturday, taking home both the men's and women's East Coast Conference titles.
Both teams dominated the field with the Men's team finishing with 172 points, 57 more than the second place team, Queens. On the women's side, the Redhawks earned 140 points while runner-up Georgian Court (N.J.) compiled 113 points.
In the men's competition, the Redhawks won seven of the 20 scored events, five of which were individual along with two relay victories, as well as having student-athletes score a point in 18 of the events.
Gabe Rivera (200m),
Thomas Rodger (800m),
Aaron Bellomo (mile run),
Kevin Brown (5000m), and
Aaron McGinnis (long jump) were the Redhawks' individual winners.
The Men's 4 x 200 meter relay team of
David Donovan,
Jared Gonzalez, Rivera, and McGinnis as well as the 4 x 800 meter team of
Luke Jackson,
Robbie Schrenker,
Justin Bender, and Rodger both crossed the finish line first in their respective races.
For the Women's team, Roberts Wesleyan winners on the day were
Rachel Hust (1000m, mile run),
Elizabeth Valento (3000m),
April Sablan (5000m),
Kasey Semmler (pole vault), and
Victoria Houser (weight throw).
The 4 x 800 meter relay team of Hust, Emily Durso,
Emily Betts, and
Kennedy Lewandowski were also victorious.
With the two ECC titles, Roberts Wesleyan can now boast having won a total of four East Coast Conference championships as both the Men's and Women's Cross Country won their respective ECC championship this past fall.
