ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – In their first East Coast Conference match of the season, Roberts Wesleyan men's tennis fell to St. Thomas Aquinas, 6-3, Friday afternoon.
 
The Redhawks were forced to play from behind after going 1-2 in doubles action. At second doubles, Jose Maria Carrillo and Jose Lopez Tapia dropped the closest doubles match of the day to the Spartans' Andreu Ferragut-Lluch and Roger Almato, falling 9-8.
 
In singles, Charles Farres was edged by Aaron Stahl 6-3, 5-7, 10-2 at first singles. The senior also fell at first doubles with Robert Beer as the duo lost 8-5 to Stahl and Javier Munoz-Laguna.
 
Winners for Roberts Wesleyan came at third doubles as well as fifth and sixth singles. Rene Torti was the lone double winner for the Redhawks as he took fifth singles with a convincing 6-1, 6-0 win over Chris Jonas. Torti also partnered with Guilherme Plentz de Liz to down Jonas and Gilberto Lantigua, 8-1.
 
The loss puts Roberts Wesleyan at 9-8 overall and 0-1 in ECC action. Up next for the Redhawks is a match at Queens on Saturday at 11 a.m.
