Flag Football Team Signs First Recruit

ROCHESTER, NY – Head Coach Paul Fricano has announced the first Roberts Wesleyan University Flag Football recruit as high school senior Kate Rayburn signed on to play for the Redhawks as the Flag Football team prepares for the first season.

Rayburn, from Greece Athena High School, helped the Trojans to the Section V quarterfinal playoff round and was named All-Greater Rochester (for the second time) and was also a First Team All-Monroe County pick.

Q: Why did you choose Roberts Wesleyan to continue your career and education?

A: I chose Robert's not only to continue playing Flag Football but I loved the community and campus feel.

Q: What are your most memorable High School (Flag Football) accomplishments?

A: Most memorable Flag Football accomplishments include winning Section V with my team last year, and also getting AGR two years in a row.

Q: What attracted you to play Flag Football?

A: My friends and I who played soccer didn't have a spring sport and thought it might be fun to try something new. I knew very little about the rules of football before even trying the sport, so it was a lot to learn and understand before stepping on the field. But once my friends and I understood how to play the sport, it changed our lives.

Q: What other sports/extracurricular activities did you do in High School?

A: Varsity Soccer and Travel Soccer was another priority in my life during High School.

Q: How does it feel to be a part of the first team at Roberts?

A:  I feel so proud to be a part of the first Flag Football team at Robert's. It's crazy to think I'll be a part of both my high school and college inaugural season. I can't wait to get to build a relationship with my teammates and get to work.

Q: Who inspired you to pursue an athletic career in college?

A: I always knew I wanted to play a sport in college. Whether that was soccer or flag football. Towards the end of this year I realized how much of a love for flag football I had, and that I wanted to continue my future playing this sport at the collegiate level. My coaches at high school encouraged and supported me as I was trying to pursue Flag Football in college.
