ROCHESTER, NY – Freshman Sarah Seyfang scored twice on pass receptions and sophomore Aaliyah McCoy added four scoring runs to lead the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Flag Football team to a convincing 52-0 victory over Daemen University Wednesday night on Redhawks Turf Field.
The shutout victory was the third straight for the Redhawks (7-0) as Roberts has outscored opponents 174-0 in the last four games.
Roberts started quick with a 12-yard scoring run by McCoy to take an early lead and doubled that lead after an interception by Seyfang on the second play from scrimmage for Daemen led to a scoring pass to Seyfang one play later.
McCoy added another TD on a short run as Roberts jumped out to a 19-0 lead less than seven minutes into the contest.
The fourth drive of the game started slow with a pair of fumbles but sophomore Aimee Turner completed a long TD pass to Seyfang for a 65-yard scoring play and the longest play from scrimmage of the year for the Redhawks.
On the ensuing Daemen drive, senior Laura Granada intercepted a pass and returning it to the endzone for another score to increase the Roberts lead to 32-0 near the end of the first quarter of action.
McCoy rambled for two more scoring runs in the second quarter including one on a 57-yard scamper as the Redhawks took a 46-0 lead into the halftime intermission.
On the next Daemen drive, freshman Kate Rayburn intercepted a pass to set up the fourth TD run by McCoy with a one-yard run to give the Redhawks a 52-0 lead.
Turner finished 3-for-3 passing for 111 yards and three TDs, Seyfang had three catches for 102 yards and a pair of scores while McCoy finished with five carries for 80 yards and four scores.
Defensively, 12 players recorded tackles as Granada led the way with nine tackles and an interception and sophomore Neve Tilley added eight stops and a pass breakup. Freshman Deborah Catalino had four tackles and a breakup, freshman Sophia Sherron added two tackles and two pass deflections while senior Barbora Fronkova added three tackles and a pass breakup.
The Redhawks return to action April 12 at D'Youville University.
